How Often Should You Replace Your Windows?

Jennifer CalebBy Jennifer CalebSeptember 1, 2019No Comments3 Mins Read

Professionally installed windows should last for up to 25 years without needing a replacement, but this isn’t always the case with some products. Your windows are an important part of your home, having substandard windows that don’t keep out noise or draughts is something you shouldn’t have to live with. It is important to buy new windows from a reputable supplier to avoid poor installation.

Here are some tips to help you decide when to replace your windows.

Knowing When It’s Time for New Windows

Window Leaks – If your current windows leak when it is raining, you’ll need to have them replaced with high-quality, cheap uPVC windows or other products on the market. A lot of homeowners are now choosing to install uPVC products because they are affordable and easy to maintain. A leaking window will let water and damage your interior décor, moisture running down your walls will affect the paint and wallpaper.

Fixtures & Fittings – While inspecting your windows you find damaged fixtures or fittings; you may think about having your windows replaced. You leave your home at risk if your windows aren’t properly secured. If the latch is broken or another part of the window is failing, a burglar could easily enter your property by taking advantage of decaying windows.

Mould & Mildew – If you notice mould or mildew around the edges of your window, the seal may not be functioning correctly. Professionally installed, good quality windows won’t show signs of mildew or mould. Having these compounds on your window isn’t just unsightly, they can be dangerous too, especially if you or anyone in your home suffers from respiratory problems.

Deterioration – As mentioned before, windows should last for up to 25 years without needing a replacement, but this doesn’t always happen. If you’ve failed to maintain your windows or they were poorly installed, you may need a replacement in half that time.

Visual Appeal – Numerous homeowners change their windows simply because they’ve lost their visual appeal. They start to look old and lose their colour when exposed to harsh weather conditions. Some change their windows because they want to renovate their home and their current windows don’t match well with their new design concept.

Choosing the Right Supplier

If you are keen on installing new windows in your home, it is important to find a first-class supplier who can get the job done right. You’ll find many companies in your area who can offer replacement windows, but not all of them can provide a high-quality service.

Choosing windows comes down to personal preference, though uPVC materials are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. When you find a suitable supplier, you can ask them about materials and pricing.

Knowing when to replace your windows depends on a number of factors – age, aesthetics, condition and functionality. The best way to decide is to examine your windows to see if they can be fixed or need replacing. If your windows are old, poorly fitted or deteriorating, it may be time to talk to a professional installer to see what kind of products are on offer.
